I GREW UP IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS AT THE BASE OF THE FLINT HILLS AND WAS SURROUNDED BY FARMLAND. AS A CHILD, I LOVED EXPLORING THE LAND OF MY HOME BEFORE I BEGAN TRAVELLING INTERNATIONALLY TO COUNTRIES IN CENTRAL AMERICA AND SOUTHEAST ASIA. MY TRAVELS HAVE GREATLY INFLUENCED MY PERSPECTIVE AND LOVE OF THE LANDSCAPE.
I MAJORED IN CERAMICS AT COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS LOCATED IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. WHILE THERE, I WORKED AS A STUDIO TECHNICIAN FOR TWO YEARS. THIS GAVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIRE MANY TYPES OF KILNS, AND THE SKILLS TO BEGIN WORKING IN PORCELAIN. I ENJOYED FIRING ATMOSPHERIC KILNS AND MOST OF MY WORK IN SCHOOL WAS SODA FIRED PORCELAIN.
CURRENTLY, I AM WORKING BACK IN KANSAS IN MY OWN STUDIO. I AM STILL WORKING IN PORCELAIN AND I HAVE TRANSITIONED TO FIRING IN OXIDATION. I AM SO GRATEFUL AND EXCITED FOR THE ABILITY TO MAKE POTS AND CONTINUE TO EXPLORE THE MATERIAL OF CLAY!
